Photonfocus introduces a new NIR sensitive camera as member of the 4 MPix MV1-D2048 camera series. The MV1-D2048I joins MV1-D2048x1088I camera which is part of Photonfocus' extensive line of enhanced NIR cameras. The quantum efficiency (QE) of the new model at 850 nm is 35% and 10% at 950nm. In comparison, the quantum efficiency of the MV1-D1312IE 1.4 MPix camera is 40% and 20% respectively. The MV1-D1280I 1.3 MPix cameras, with deep depletion photodiodes, also have a QE of 40% and 20% respectively.

The Photonfocus MV1-D2048(I/C) 4 MPix camera series was released two years ago with version 3 (V3) of the CMV4000 CMOS image sensor. In order to enhance the sensor performance under all working conditions, Photonfocus uses a special FPGA sensor control core which is available in Photonfocus CMOS camera modules.

At the 2014 SPIE Photonics West Exhibition in San Francisco, IMEC (Haverlee, Belgium - www2.imec.be) demonstrated their hyperspectral image sensors which are based on the CMOSIS CMV2000 and CMV4000 imagers. In support of these custom imagers, Photonfocus offers complete OEM modules that include the camera firmware, IO and GigE Vision and Camera Link interfaces which can be used to develop custom camera platforms. For prototyping Photonfocus offers sensor PCBs with sockets for the image sensor. The firmware is available in two variants as standard camera firmware or as firmware with binning capabilities optimized for hyperspectral imaging. The camera modules are supported by the Photonfocus standard software package and GenICam compatible software products.  In addition, Pleora Technologies (Kanata, Ontario, Canada - www.pleora.com) can develop custom drivers and API for processors and operating systems to support embedded systems typically used in hyperspectral applications.

On April 15-17 Photonfocus will be attending the Vision Show 2014 in Boston, Massachusetts, where the complete Photonfocus product spectrum including embedded and OEM solutions will be displayed on booth 500. Visit us and discuss your application and needs with us!

Photonfocus announces the addition of the SM1 smart camera series to their standard products.  For the past 2 years this smaller form-factor series has been used for custom specific projects and is well-suited for embedded vision applications.  To further enhance the product line the SM1 series will soon be expanded to include additional sensors ranging from VGA to 5MP resolution.  The SM1 and SM2 feature different DSPs and can be combined with all MV1 CMOS image sensor modules.  Combining this technology with FPGA pre-processing can further increase the performance.

For custom specific embedded solutions the SM1 PCB stack offers an advantage with its small form factor and rugged industrial interface connectors. Photonfocus supports custom specific design-ins by supplying CAD data in STEP format and custom specific sensor PCB implementations.

After 6 years on market the SM2 smart camera series has been updated. Revision 2 upgrades the 1 GHz DSP to the TMS320C6455 1.2 GHz TI DSP. The software tool chain, the framework and the examples have also been updated and expanded. Customers have the option of programming the cameras with their own code with software packages like OpenCV or Halcon embedded.

The SM2 camera family consists of four main members:

  • The SM2-D1024 features flexible ROI modes and an extraordinary high signal to noise ratio (SNR) due to the high full well capacity (200ke-) of the Photonfocus A1024B CMOS sensor.  This camera is excellent for optical metrology and welding applications.
  • The SM2-D1312, which features the Photonfocus A1312 sensor, offers a well-balanced ratio between sensitivity and signal to noise ratio (SNR) with an option for enhanced NIR sensitivity.
  • The SM2-D2048x1088 is a fast 2MP area scan camera for low-light applications with additional line scan capabilities supporting line scan applications with up to 27kHz line rate.
  • The SM2-D2048, features a 4MP low light CMOS sensor.

CMOS image sensors offer users the flexibility to arbitrarily configure Regions of Interest (ROI) in order to meet the specific requirements of their application.  Configuring an ROI of one or two lines to produce a monochrome or color line scan output is one of the more popular implementations amongst Photonfocus machine vision customers.  In addition to allowing the customer to arbitrarily position the line(s), they also benefit from a less expensive solution than a standard line scan camera.

Following numerous customer requests, Photonfocus has produced a new line of unique CMOS line scan cameras designed to specifically support a broader machine vision customer base.  Based on the popular CMOSIS 2MPix CMOS image sensor which features high speeds and superior low light sensitivity, the new Photonfocus      MV1-L2048(I/C) line scan camera series consists of 6 camera models in either monochrome, color or enhanced NIR sensitivity and a choice of the Camera Link Base MV1-L2048(I/C)-160-CL-10 or GigE Vision MV1-L2048(I/C)-96-G2-10 models.

Photonfocus' superior image formatting and line buffering design produces impressive line rates of 27.3kHz for single line monochrome Camera Link, 25.4kHz for dual line color Camera Link and 20.4kHz for GigE models.  These rival line rates only found in line scan cameras with a Camera Link Full interface.

The new Photonfocus Line Scan Camera Series is available for immediate delivery.  Systematic Vision is available to discuss your requirements, choose the right camera model and quickly help you benefit from using this product in your application.

Photonfocus has recently upgraded the MV1-D2048x1088-3D03-760-G2-8 laser triangulation camera product through updates to firmware and software. This backwards compatible Release 2.0 introduces a number of new features and significant improvements.

The most noticeable improvement is the increase of the scan rate to 10,000 light sections per second and an improved line scan mode. The line scan function has been enhanced by adding independent settings for gain and offset, which are no longer dependent on the laser triangulation settings or require additional FPN correction leading to better quality 2D images.

The trigger interface has been expanded through new functions to support system implementation and test images have been added for the detection of failures in 3D machine vision applications rounds out the new firmware release. The new firmware release is accompanied by a more expansive and improved PF3D software suite. The most important update in version V2.34 is the addition of several new data viewing options such as integrated zoom and the display of pixel and sub-pixel information.  In addition, Dual peak mode of the 3D03 has been implemented and is supported by all camera features and users have real-time access to the status information of the camera.

In order to simplify the implementation, calibration, spatial transformation and analysis of the 3D03 camera measured data into your application, Photonfocus offers the camera bundled with Aqsense Sal3D and 3D Express software.

If you would like to test the new release of the 3D camera in your application we can offer an evaluation camera to test these new features.  Our 3D camera products are also available as OEM modules or board level cameras. On demand we can also offer to you customer specific features.
